Professor Luo Yasheng, born in October, 1967; Jingyang, Shaanxi province; communist party member; doctor of Engineering; doctoral tutor; selected by New Century Excellent Talent Support Plan of Ministry of education in 2006. He was graduated from Hohai University in July 1990, majoring hydraulic and hydro-power engineering. Then he was distributed to Northwest Hydraulic Research Institute. He obtained the qualification of Engineer in November, 1995. Due to the units coalition in September 1999, he started to work in College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering. He got the Master’s Degree of Geotechnical Engineering in Xi'an University of Technology in April, 2000. After obtaining the qualification of Senior Engineer in December 2000, he was appointed associate professor in December 2004. In January 2003, he obtained the qualification as tutor of masters. He got the Doctoral Degree of Geotechnical Engineering in Xi'an University of Technology in April, 2004. He obtained the qualification as doctoral tutor in January 2007 and was appointed professor in 2008. From September 2008 to September 2009, he visited College of Engineering in Birmingham University.
Now he is the Vice Dean of College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering, Northwest A&F University. He is also a member of the Soil Dynamics Specialized Committee of China's Vibration Engineering Society, a member of a council of the Environmental Geotechnical Engineering Branch of Chinese Rock Mechanics and Engineering Society, a member of a council of Shaanxi Rock Mechanics and Engineering Society, the academic committee member of Shaanxi Loess Mechanics and Engineering Key Laboratory, editorial committee member of Water Resources and Water Engineering Journal.
2 Research Interests
Experiments, theory of loess static and dynamic characteristics and research about its engineering application
3 Teaching
Engaging in producing, scientific research and teaching of loess mechanics and engineering and water conservancy projects for a long period, he has undertaken the teaching assignments of Structural Finite Element Analysis, Finite Element Method, Elasticity, and so on for undergraduates and Rock Mechanics and Soil Dynamic for postgraduates successively.
Currently 15 postgraduate students have been graduated under the supervision of Professor Luo. Now he is supervising 8 mater students and 3 doctoral students.
4 Scientific Research and Academic Achievements
Engaging in the work of producing and scientific research of loess mechanics and engineering for a long period, he took charge of many projects, for example, Chinese National Natural Science Foundation Project (Dynamic structural strength-deformation characteristics of unsaturated loess, No.50578134), New Century Excellent Talent Support Plan of Ministry of education (NECT-06-0864), Dynamic parameter and its changing laws of some typical loess in china, Effects on the static characteristics of loess structural properties and structural weakening characteristics of loess under the condition of water, etc. As the principle investigator, Prof. Luo participated the national 863 project (Efficient water delivering technology and products of modern channel and pipe net, No.2001AA242071), National Natural Science Foundation Project (Dynamic-static characteristics and stable design of loess, No.10172070), and other research work with various funds sponsored by Water Resources Ministry and Shaanxi Province, such as Micromechanics study of loess' strength, Tensile testing of loess and dam material, Experimental research on the shear strength of unsaturated loess, Seepage problems of earth dam in Southern Shaanxi. The research areas of Prof. Luo refer to some basic research on the producing of Loess Engineering, dynamic and static characteristic of loess, unsaturated loess and structural loess.
He has published more than 50 papers on all kinds of learned periodical and domestic and overseas academic conference proceedings, for example Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Journal of Hydroelectric Engineering and Journal of Soil and Water Conservation, etc.
He has won one third-class prize of Scientific and Technological Advances Award of Water Resources Ministry, one third-class Scientific and Technological prize of Dayu Hydraulic Science of Water Resources Ministry, one second-class and one third-class prize of Hydraulic Scientific and Technological Advances Award of Shaanxi Province, one second-class, two third-class and one fourth-class prize of Natural Science Excellent Academic Thesis of Shaanxi Province. And he was selected by New Century Excellent Talent Support Plan of Ministry of education in 2006.
